Spring has Sprung!!

And so have I!!!!

Weeeeee, the squirrels are back...

We have been on the look out for some stinky black cat that keeps walking by our house and making faces at us, when we see it we yell at it and say bad things to it and our dads get upset with US!!! can you believe it, they say we can't bark at that black cat, what would our kitty Poppy think. We're like dad the black cat is REAL stinky not just a little stinky like Poppy. NO BARKING AT THE BLACK CAT. You know dad, sometimes you just have to act like a dog!

Beatiful Day

It was a great day. No rain, no humidity, not too hot and lots of sunshine. I just can't ask for anything more. Well, maybe if mom were here to spend it with us, instead of having to go off and WORK!

Timber.....

Half the play set is gone.

But I am sure she'll get used to it.

These are some of mom's forty something green bean plants. Auntie asked if mom was feeding an army. Mom said she liked green beans and she does have to feed memere and pepere.

Mom's peas are looking good. She has to get out there and string them up, though. She sure does hope those are the sugar snap peas. lol

Easy Like Sunday Morning

For mom, Lucky and me, at least. Dad and PlusOne are going to help memere by doing weed whacking and hedge trimming. That is, if it's not raining.

Silly Saturday

I think this sums my feeling about water up very nicely.

Rainy Friday

It rained all day yesterday. And PlusOne abandoned us to go spend time with Memere and Pepere. He is not going anywhere today, as mom is coming home from work early to spend time with him.

It is supposed to rain most of today, tomorrow and Sunday as well. You know what that means. Yup, you got it. SNUGGLE TIME!

Who's The Boss

I would say Lucky is the boss, here. Wouldn't you?

The Shit Sucker

Mama told me a great story today during the evening walkie.  Many years ago in Europe, she and dad saw one of these on the street:

Dad, in his normal fashion, called it a "shit sucker".  Mama calls that a "Klaus-ism", which is an interesting way to describe something that, while it makes perfect sense, is nothing that a native English speaker would ever come up with on their own.

And she hasn't seen one of them since.  So today, with some trepidation, I bring to you - THE SHIT SUCKER:

I do not trust ye olde shit sucker.  Curious about it, why yes I am.  But not curious enough to get close.

Love

Mom's Garden

Last year mom's peas didn't grow at all. So this year, she made two furrows and dumped all the seeds in them. Look at them grow!

And this is one of the brand spanking new raspberry plants mom bought. Latham red, which was supposed to bloom later in the year. It has berries on it already. Can you believe it?

Mom is very excited.

Golf

You know what I really enjoy?
Watching golf. Not on the T.V. but on Grandma's back deck.

It involves a ball and a stick. Two of my favorites.
Really wish someone would let me play.

Sincerely,
Lincoln

"My Secret Ponds"

I have a secret pond.
Would you like to come visit with me?
There are so many wonders and mysterys in the pond!
Surrounded by the tall grasses and red clover blossoms, the pond lies quietly.

The sun shines down through the tall trees, and paints reflections in the pond .
The reflections dance on the water!
Sometimes I close my eyes and I listen to the stillness of my secret pond.
I can feel the touch of the breeze as it tickles my whiskers.
The breeze is music in my heart, and makes my heart sing.
Yes , this is my secret pond.

There is magic in the pond!
Frogs splash !
Frogs leap onto lily pads and sing croaking songs.

Birdies tweets are like symphonys ---from high in the tallest trees...
Baby birds are swinging on branches and learning to fly!

Salamanders swim and play hide and seek with each other.
The mommy and daddy salamander teach their babies to swim.
Can you see the salamanders swim ?

Tad poles swim in the ponds too.
Now the baby tad poles are growing legs.
Soon the tad poles will be leaping frogs.
Do you see the tad poles?

When I go to my secret pond.. I watch the ferns stretch.
I see them unfold their tiny hands.
They unfold their hands
like the many mysterys, that unfold at the secret pond.

The ferns are waking up, from their long sleep of winter.
They are reaching for the sky.
The ferns are welcoming spring!
The ferns love the secret ponds...
There are so many wonders to display!
There is magic at my secret ponds.,,,,,,
Baby birds are learning to fly and bumble bees are gathering pollen.
And, I am chasing butterflys and shadows!
But, sometimes I just sit and listen.
I listen to the quiet at my secret pond.
I listen for new wonders to unfold.
Nitey nite
love

Mean Mom

Mom took us for a walk to meet and walk home with PlusOne on his last day of school. It's not a bad walk, over half a mile, but it wasn't too hot or sunny. We waited patiently for PlusOne to come out and then it started to rain.

I HATE rain. I won't go out in it if I don't have to. I did NOT enjoy walking home in the rain. Over half a mile. PlusOne carried Lucky. Did mom carry me? No, she did NOT! She was very mean to me, making me walk all the way home, walking in puddles and getting soaking wet.

When we got home mom toweled us off until we were mostly dry. then they changed their clothes and we took a nap. A long nap. And I ate all the treats! Serves mom right for being so mean to me.

Froot Bat Friday

Doods, I was on there first.  Then somekitty just moseyed over and cuddled up on my bed. So not cool.  But he did leave the froot bats alone (for once!), so I just let him stay there. Mom was pretty impressed at how relaxacated my froot bats are - lately when EG's around, they're pretty tense. Because he keeps trying to taste them.  Wouldn't you be tense, too?  Just sayin'.

Have a great weekend, everybuddy!

No More Squeak

I don't know why Mom keeps buying me these toys. They last for such a short time and then she takes it away so I don't eat it and barf. I can always sniff them out when she "hides" them on the counter or in the wastebasket. And, since I've been quite a good boy, Santa brought me a couple of cool, new toys for Christmas that I haven't been able to destroy yet.

Hiking the Benton MacKaye and visiting Fall Branch Falls!

About a month ago, Mum took me and Gracie to a new hiking spot. There are a lot of falls around here and we wanted to see one of them. This one was pretty close to us.

So we headed out to Fall Branch Falls, which connects to the Benton MacKaye trail (which is one of the trails that start the Appalachian Trial (AT)).

You can see our path in our hiking map (date 5-7-2011). When we were there, we didn't have this map yet, and were interested to learn that we were just a few miles from where we hiked the previous time we went on a long hike. Very cool how all these trails are connected and how you can get from one to the other by driving around to different trail heads.

Right at the entrance there was a very nice, clean stream. Gracie and I just love checking out streams and get in a nice cool dip.

Just a little way in, we saw that someone left their walking stick for the next hiker, very cool :).

We made our way on the trail and quickly came to the Falls. It is such a great sound the falls make, so calming!

We ventured on and hiked up the mountain, saw a lot of woods and more woods and more woods; after a while the woods get kind of boring, I have to say.

But alas! We turned a sharp corner and just then we heard something scratching around in the brush. We froze! Was it a bear, deer, a squirrel? Mum has a command for us...'listen'...and when she says that we stand very still and be very quiet so we can hear and find what's making the noise. Just after our little 'listen' we saw what was in the woods!

Two wild turkeys took off running down the little ridge and got onto the trail that we just passed, dog did that get us going...we almost pulled Mum down the mountain, BOL! After a bit we calmed down and ventured on. (Sorry no photos of the turkeys, too much chaos to get a pic :(.

We came to one place and saw lots of these...we think it's a Papilio glaucus, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, according to DiscoverLife.org's handy dandy butterfly identification guide.

We took a little break once we got up on the mountain...lots of forest to see, and me of course!

Since Mum didn't know exactly where we were, we decided to head back the same way we came. She definitely has to get us a handheld GPS unit that we can take along to keep track of our location. Who knows maybe we'll even get the add on garmin geocaching chirp and do a little caching? Hmmm...more adventures, cool!

As we headed back, we took in another drink from the clean stream, nice and cool!

And took the obligatory pose in front of the waterfall, BOL!

What a fun little afternoon! Can't wait for our next hike, we are overdue!

The Year of the Rabbit

I consider it very good luck that on the third day of the Year of the Rabbit, I saw a jackrabbit for the first time ever at the Park. At first, I thought the huge thing bounding away from me was a coyote. But bounding? And then there were the huge ears. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture, but I did snap this portrait of hare poop, which is bigger and lighter in color than bunny poop:

About an hour later, on the South Trail, I caught a beautiful male cardinal posing. All in all a good day!

Bishan Park on Sundays

The new dog runs at Bishan Park attract many people and dogs every weekend. It can be quite crowded.
We saw two stray dogs at the top of the hill, one female just given birth. We quickly get out of there as Mummy has fear of stray dogs protecting their territories. We have stopped going to AMK West Garden because two years ago there were 4 stray dogs chasing and barking at us protecting their territory. Now the National Parks say the stray population has increased to 20.
